WHAT IS A FLUTE?
The flute is a beautiful, shiny silver instrument with lots of keys. You make sound by blowing a stream of air across a hole in the head joint and change notes using the many keys along the body, It is especially good at playing high notes and can play any song you like.
WHERE DOES IT FIT IN THE BAND?
Flute players work together to make a beautiful, sweet sound which sits above all of the deeper, lower instruments. They sit together in a group up the front of the band and opposite the Clarinet players. They get to play the melody (the tune) a lot of the time. The best player sits closest to the conductor in the front row and is a really important person. They are the leader of the flute team.
HOW DO I KNOW IF IT'S FOR ME?
You just love the sweet sound! The Flute is played by blowing across an open hole, like when you blow across the top of a bottle. You need to blow a lot of air to play the flute (the most out of all of the wind instruments), but you don’t have to blow the air hard. You then use lots of keys to cover up holes along the flute which changes the pitch of the notes so having good finger dexterity is important.
CAN I TRY IT ON FOR SIZE?
